City Walks

Добавлен 25 апр 2017
City Walks makes 4K Virtual Walking Tours for treadmill workouts. These walks make your workout go faster. I walk and have a friendly chat with you as we explore various places looking for interesting bits to mention.
In 2016, we sold our house in Montana and traveled Europe for a year. I used to love, on earlier solo travels, just walking and exploring cities. I started slow and my first walk wasn't until early 2017 in Edinburgh. I filmed when I could or when the spirit moved me and the channel grew slowly. In 2019, I got motivated to film more and film regularly. And it worked. The channel sort of took off I could afford to dedicate more time and resources to the channel. One of my favorite things about the channel has been getting comments (I read them all) from people in lock-down that get a bit of joy and solace from watching these simple virtual walking tours of cities and trails.

FRANCE 4K: Walking Through Orleans in the Loire Valley - City Walks Videos for Treadmill Workouts
We arrived in Orleans after a long ride that included a stop at the palce of Chambord. That was amazing but Orelans in the evening light was also beautiful. The cathedral and avenue Jean d'Arc, the old town, and the riverside with locals relaxing and hanging out as the sun set. A wonderful calming and relaxing video for treadmill virtual walk.

FRANCE 4K: Blois Virtual Walking Tour - 4K City Walks Walking Video for Treadmill

Blois is a smallish city on the Loire River. We arrived just before a heavy rain and found a cafe to shelter in with hot drinks and snacks. After checking into our hotel, the rain stopped and I headed out to film this virtual tour for you. Despite the steps, I enjoyed exploring this city on a quiet weekend evening. I never got the chance to visit the inside of the chateau but the outside seemed...

But, it gave me an opportunity to show you a city I wouldn't have been able too and we had a beautiful morning to film walking videos for treadmill. We also found a lovely romanesque church to explore. Poitiers was home to Eleanor of Aquitaine, married to both the King of France and the King of England at dif...

FRANCE - Exploring Saint Nazaire on the Coast - 4k Virtual Treadmill Tour and City Walk
Просмотров 970Месяц назад
We have made it to France. Our first stop is in Saint Nazaire. A quiet, charming little sea-side town of about 80K at the mouth of the Loire Valley. In addition to its history as a port, and perhaps because of it, St Nazaire has some exciting stories which I try to summarize in this walk. It's a wonderfully peaceful, sunny day in the middle of a week of rain. I hope you enjoy this virtual walk ...

Located on the very northern edge of Yellowstone National Park, Gardiner MT serves as a Gateway town. It lives on tourism and you will find pretty much everything you need here. It's a great option to save some money when staying in the park. It's an hour's drive south of Livingston, where I live, and I've filmed it before. However, it's had some setbacks due to the pandemic and a historic floo...

Very good Henry. You do well not getting lost. ☺
In the winter the ice would be pushed up almost to the road
Really interesting. -H
The NAOH ships used to dock out at the end...no lake
Very cool
Ferry used to go to Kodiak Island
👍
Boy that area has changed...the spit was two lanes wide..then twenty ft rocks then ocean...so they have really filled in,had no buildings on right side of road. Fifty years of build up....amazing
No campground, weekenders would line the road bumper to bumper and that way camping in 74
I can only imagine. Thanks so much for sharing all this. -H
Lived there 72-74 worked in cannery at ens of spit, then at Totom cafe near Salty Daug Saloon,a lot less there then. Halibut is fileted.
👍❤️
Thank you for taking us on this nice evening walk through lovely Orleans, Henry! Your dedication to filming is commendable - you do some of these after you've had pretty exhausting days. 🥴A very safe and happy Independence Day to you and your family! 🎆🎇
Many thanks! But I found most days walking and biking used different muscles. Most days I didn’t mind getting a walk in. Thanks Pam. -H
Nice walk along a beautiful quiet town..the river is so lovely... thank you brother 🎉🎉
You are so welcome. Thanks so much for your kind words and energy. I'm so glad you enjoyed walking around Orleans too. -H
bonne vidéo,❤
Merci. -H
Orleans is really an awesome and beautiful area of France especially in the Loire Valley there, also nice looking buildings and streets to walk down with nice weather and of course cafes and restaurants to eat at, I'm really enjoying the tour of this beautiful part of France Thank You and have a wonderful fourth of July this week Henry. 🇨🇵🎇🎆🎇🎆🇺🇸
Couldn't agree more! And happy Independence Day to you too. -H
Thank you for this awesome walk. Since I would not be able to walk this paths , following you is like being there. :)
Hi Mary. So glad you enjoyed it. -H
I have such fond memories of Boulder. The hot dog stand at 1100 Block Pearl, I am almost certain, was set up by a family friend of mine, John Hargreaves and his mate Freddie, back in 1980 (the stand is still called Freddie's). John and his best bud ran the stall, interspersed with climbing jaunts into the nearby Rockies. John is still alive, but sadly his best friend died during these times whilst visiting France. Tragically an avalanche swept him off Mont Blanc. This was very nostalgic footage and I plan to return to this lovely place soon. Thanks. Ad altiora!
Oh wonderful that it brought back memories. Thanks so much for sharing them. I hope you make it back soon. -H
@@CityWalks Thanks for the quick reply. It was John Hargreaves and Freddie who set up the hot dog stall. I wonder if the current operators know its history? The two friends were both crag rats from here in the UK. Both were accomplished climbers, the two of them being amongst the first to climb The Old Man of Hoy in the Orkneys for instance. They both sailed to the USA in a 30' yacht in late 1979 or so, left it in Florida and then fell in love with Colorado, where the hot dog stall undoubtedly supplied some income whilst they climbed their way around the Colorado Rockies. Sadly John also has alzheimer's now in his 82nd year but I will get my mum to show him your footage of Pearl. In these weird times it's great how such a subtle piece of footage can bring such solace. I enjoyed your relaxing wander too, having visited Boulder several times and even got myself up Longs Peak. Keep up the good work and thanks again from England's Lake District. Ad altiora!
Why don’t you pan around ?
Thanks for the input Richard. I’m always learning. -H
I wish there are more channels like yours, which brings the world to my doorstep. Always happy after watching one of your videos. It's so great! 😁
So nice of you -H
where are all the people?

This was so much fun to watch! At this very moment (June 27, 2024; 0800 am MST) my sister and brother-in-law are touring the Herculaneum as I watched this video! They are on a ten-day cruise of the Mediterranean and Naples was their stop 0645 am Italian time. They took the tour at 1600 Italian time in the afternoon. It was great fun to "walk through" with them, even though this is a year old. Thanks City Walks! I also subscribed.
Welcome and that is so cool to do it "synched" like that. What a cool way to share the experience. Thanks so much for sharing this. Makes my day. Cheers and I hope your sister and BIL have a great trip. -H
Is it just the camera, or is the sun barely setting?
A Bit of both. West side of the time zone and the camera is trying to compensate. -H
I’m using your videos as I recuperate from bypass surgery, and I’m enjoying them immensely! It makes my walks on the treadmill pass by quickly as I get wrapped up in those amazing visuals! Thank you!!!
Wow, thanks so much and I'm so glad I can be part of your recovery. That's not a small surgery. Hang in there and keep on steppin'. Also, you can find more of these walks by length and location at citywalksvirtualtours.com. Hope you heal quickly. -H
@@CityWalks thanks! I walk every day, sometimes twice a day, and your videos are really helping inspire me … especially the ones through Switzerland, wow! Time passes very quickly on those walks!
Pardon my English. While I can read the French a bit, speaking it is a completely different thing. I'm so glad you enjoyed this video and it brought back memories, despite the changes. Thanks so much for sharing. -H
Hi Henry. I enjoyed this walk as I have enjoyed all the previous France walks. They do make think about what French life is like, both in the present and the past. I find it hard to wrap my head around how such grand buildings were built 700 years ago. Did you find it easy to adapt to the rhthyms of cycling across a country and being briefly nomadic? Hope you are well and that summer is treating you kindly. My Vermont summer has been pleasant thus far. Take care.
Hi Tom, Thanks for another great thought and question. I too, especially in France, find it hard to fathom the beautiful craftmanship from back then. I feel like the British analogues are a bit rougher. That's not to say worse, just not as elegant. We have done long stints of traveling for years now so the nomadic lifestyle is not that new to us. What was different was the daily changes. Usually we stay somewhere for a week to a month and "slow travel". On this trip we stayed somewhere new most nights. Also, I'm normally focusing on filming for videos or taking photos. I wasn't able to do that on this trip and it was both challenging to switch gears and nice to just enjoy the experience of rolling through the French countryside at 10mph, even in the rain. I injured my back the last day of our trip (while walking the bike ironically) but I'm anxious to get back out there and ride again. We've had a mixture of hot and cold here but mostly pretty nice and we even floated the Yellowstone River last weekend. That usually has to wait until July due to spring runofff but it was a dry winter and spring. All the best to you and keep on steppin' -H
Thanks for visiting our little town. It is unfortunate that you didn't have a local with you to point out some of the downtown features we are proud of. You really missed a great place to visit, 21 C Hotel (where you noticed the twisted street lamps. They are very inviting to visitors and have a very interesting art collection available to the public.
I really did enjoy exploring downtown Lexington. I too, would have liked to have had some local knowledge there. I was a bit envious walking past the guided walking tour. Perhaps I can line something up next time I’m there. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting. All the best. - H.
We are with you whatever happens there. Courage is a great quality! Doesn't have a phone, a black T-shirt, and something made of cheap sillk underneath, tattooed arms, legs, and white tousled hair.
Thanks. -H
Nice walk thru, thank u but, all i can think about is thee poor people waiting fo Campi Felegri (sp) to erupt and dont these people know their own history ? 6/2024
I hear you, it's a strange case of cognizant dissonance and innertia. They know the dangers but they have such deep roots, they don't move away. I guess the same can be said of Seattle near Ranier and people in Hawaii and Iceland. Thanks for watching and commenting. -H
I can almost feel the cool breeze from the sea my friend.. The place is so beautiful! I love it!
Yes, thank you. It was a blustery day for sure. -H
Yet another beautiful walk through a charming city in France! It DID feel a little like being in Italy at moments, but we won't tell them. 😂
Haha Pam, We'll keep it a secret for sure. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks, as always, for commenting. -H
Happy St John The Baptist Day.✝️🙏❤️
Many thanks and also to you. -H
@CityWalks You are very welcome, I really like this video , there is not a minute of it that I do not enjoy ,that place is a marvel.🙂

Hahah. I'd love to. -H
Blois is a very nice small city with a lot of beautiful scenery and classic architectured buildings with shops, pubs and other interesting sights to see around the city this is a very nice area to explore thanks for the videos of this awesome area of France Thank You.🇫🇷🤠🇫🇷

Nice hope to see more French walks! Any plans to visit Limoges or valence ?
Hi there and thanks so much. Not those places but I just posted a walk from Blois and I filmed several more as we worked our way up the Loire and then over to Basel and that area. You can find them as I post them on citywalksvirtualtours.com -H
@@CityWalks sh if you’re going up the loire then I recommend a amboise and Orleans!
@@Jcguy123 Thanks for that. We're home now. We didn't have time to film in Amboise though that would have been great. But I did film in Orleans, Poitiers, Nevers, as well as Basel, Colmar, Stasbourg, and Bayeux. It was a great trip. Thanks again for the recommendations. -H
@@CityWalks nice. Looking forward to seeing them!
History and your walking tours are two of my favourite things so thank you very much Henry. Beautiful walk. My favourite so far that you have brought to us from France 😀👍
So kind of you. Thanks so much. I love history as well and have been digging in, a bit, to French history that I never really learned much about in school. It's been fun sharing these places too. -H
How Beautiful place!!!
It really is! Thanks for the comment and for watching. -H
Its really interesting how the walls are built from bricks and some rotated 45 degrees so a-lot of skill and knowledge went into the construction back then. My late Mums father and his father visited Pompeii in 1913. Thanks. Laurie NZ 😊
Oh wow. Visiting Southern Italy in general in 1913 must have been amazing. I read somewhere that back then, much of Italy's regions couldn't understand each other because they were still speaking local dialects. -H
Just thinking of the skills and massive amount of work that went into building all the walls etc. in the first place. Just amazing thanks! Laurie NZ 😊
Hi There and thanks for sharing this. I agree. I'm guessing it was done by slaves and to think that each brick was made without modern industrial practices and then place by hand as well. -H
@@CityWalks ahh bricks are still placed by hand here in NZ.
So cool to see the ruins! Thanks for filming
Hi Grace, and you are so welcome. It’s an amazing place and I would love to go back sometime. If you ever get the chance to see any of these ruins, definitely take the opportunity. All the best and keep on steppin’ - H.

I really enjoy the view from the rimrocks in Summer. -H
funny when you talk about strong wind and you walk past a sign "Katabatic Brewery"? The wind in Livingston has at one times literally blew a train off the tracks!
I didn’t know about the train but it doesn’t surprise me. I’m pretty sure the brewery is named with the wind in mind. Their motto is “ a drinky town with a windy problem”
idk about the oasis man. spent my entire life in miles city and only thing oasis has for it is the docks and diving boards. spotted eagle is the only way.
Cool. Thanks for the local knowledge. All the best. -H
Nice walk Henry! Thanks again 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Steve. It's a pretty nice city to explore. Keep on Steppin' -H
Love the markets. I also noticed how everyone was dressed nicely. A nice treat compared to North American malls where you could see a few people looking like they just rolled out of bed.
Thanks so much. It was interesting to see the difference in dress from Paris. A lot of the towns we went through people wore jeans and baseball caps and tennis shoes and were almost indistinguishable from Americans. I guess tour fits into the urban fashion more. Thanks so much for watching. - H.
Nice Walk, Thanks for sharing this video 👍 Im also walking tour vlogger from Philippines 🇵🇭
